Location Manager-Hudson, SD

Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Regional Manager

Description: Plan, supervise and coordinate location personnel while directing operations that will improve the cooperative’s efficiency in a manner that demonstrates Farmers Elevator Coop’s mission and goals.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations and personnel to ensure teamwork and efficiencies are developed to recude costs, increase productivity and to improve customer service to patrons
  • Manage daily operations and maintain facility appearance and operational condition
  • Oversee all feed, agronomy and grain equipment, equipment maintenance and record keeping
  • Develop and build customer relationships by providing outstanding customer service
  • Establish and communicate goals and objectives with all location employees
  • Complete timely performance appraisals for staff, coordinate staff training and actively support employee growth
  • Oversee facility compliance with OSHA, Behavior Based Safety and other cooperative safety programs
  • Attend all company meetings deemed necessary by management




Basic Qualifications:

  • 2 or 4 year degree with Major in Business or Agribusiness with 2-5 years’ experience in Cooperative management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic accounting skills and knowledge to work with company financials
  • Ability to develop and execute a departmental business plan
  • Ability to multi-task, delegate work tasks and provide a strategic vision for the location
  • Understanding of seasonality and in-season time commitment

Office Manager-Doon, IA

Classification: Full-time

Description: .Supports company operations by maintaining office systems, supporting staff and specializing in customer service in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency
Duties & Responsibilities:  NA 

  • Answer phone and direct calls
  • Order office supplies
  • Provides counter sales and customer service
  • Various office duties including but not limited to entering inventory data, time cards, product inventory count sheets and reconciling cash
  • Create, file and/or maintain agronomy invoices, grain contracts, office inventory, Material Safety Data Sheets and office files
  • Buy grain, prepare and maintain contracts and write grain checks
  • Order products for the agronomy department and prepare purchase orders for agronomy products
  • Performs truck scale, grain probing and grading procedures
  • Perform Agronomy billing for chemicals and both liquid and dry fertilizer
  • Prepare and enter agronomy contracts
  • Create PO’s for invoices received
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets for various products
  • Assist with location operations including but not limited to: filling and hauling anhydrous ammonia tanks, hauling liquid and dry fertilizer, loading agronomy products


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; at least two years of previous experience in office management
  • Class B CDL with airbrake, tanker and Hazmat endorsement (or be able to obtain within 30 days)
  • Chemical Handlers License (or be able to obtain within 30 days)
  • Basic accounting and finance skills with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Detail oriented to provide accurate and consistent work with or without direction

General Laborer/Truck Driver - Location: Alvord, IA

Classification: Full-Time
Reports to: Location Manager
Description: Performs all aspects of grain handling, maintenance, and deliver bulk feed, fertilizer and chemicals to customers in a safe, detailed and timely manner.

Duties and Responsiblites:

  • Measure and track feed grain inventory
  • Assist with loading and delivering fertilizer
  • Preform basic grain handling; loading and unloading
  • Deliver bulk feed per customer orders
  • Learns and understands the customer’s livestock operation well enough to avoid errors when making deliveries
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Perform basic mechanical maintenance
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to equipment
  • Work around and/or handles hazardous materials
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations as required by DOT, OSHA,HACCP and  FEC company safety programs
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA, HACCP and FEC company safety programs

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience

Feed Mill Operator - Location:Alvord, IA

Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Location Manager
Description:Performs all aspects of feed production and deliver bulk feed to customers in a safe, detailed and timely manner..

Duties and Responsiblites:

  • Assists with seasonal driving, company transfers, delivering seed and fertilizer carts
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift
  • Provides assistance and customer service when loading spring products
  • Follow all policies required by DOT, OSHA and FEC company safety programs

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License with clean driving record
  • Have a CDL Class B or be able to obtain a Seasonal CDL
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to work flexible hours


Seasonal Spring Help - Location: All Locations

Classification: Seasonal - Pick-up and tender truck driving
Reports to: Location Manager
Description: Assist with various seasonal duties including yard operations, loading and delivery of chemical, seed and fertilizer.

Duties and Responsiblites:

  • Assists with seasonal driving, company transfers, delivering seed and fertilizer carts
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift
  • Provides assistance and customer service when loading spring products

Internships - Multiple Opportunities and Locations

Operational Internship
Description: Do you have a goal of being strongly involved in operations?  As the Operational Intern, you may be involved in working at one of our various warehouses assisting growers with their crop protection chemicals, seed, or other Agronomy related products and/or services.  You will also be exposed to crop scouting and some customer interaction.

Scouting Internship
Description: How does being strongly involved in scouting and sales sound to you?  Although there will still be some operational activities involved in this intership, the goal would be to have you transition to field scouting as soon as the crop size and stage allows.  All information that is gathered by you would be relayed to the Agronomist whom you are working with on the collection of the data.

Sales and Marketing Internship
Description: Ever think of a career in Sales and Marketing after graduation?  You will also be involved in operations and scouting, but will quickly move to direct interaction with growers.  Normally, we give the Sales and Marketing Intern a goal, which allows you to work with a limited amount of customers promoting a specialty product or service.

Feed Semi Driver/ Grain Handler- Hudson, SD

Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Location Manager

Description:Deliver bulk feed to customers in a safe, detailed and timely manner. Maintain grain operations while ensuring all trucks are properly loaded and unloaded.


Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver bulk feed per customer orders
  • Learn and understands the customer’s livestock operation well enough to avoid errors when making deliveries
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Maintain grain quality
  • Preform basic grain handling; loading and unloading
  • Perform basic mechanical maintenance
  • Perform general housekeeping to maintain dust levels
  • Assist in HACCP compliance activities
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations as required by DOT, OSHA, HACCP and FEC company safety programs


Basic Qualifications:

  • Class A CDL license with Tanker endorsements (or must be able to obtain within 30 days)

Custom Applicator/General Laborer-Hudson, SD

Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Location Manager

Description:Apply agricultural chemicals, fertilizers and/or anhydrous to fields in a safe and timely manner.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate row crop sprayer, dry and liquid floatation equipment
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to equipment
  • Understand variable rate controllers and GPS equipment
  • Properly check quantity of raw materials used and in storage
  • Apply accurate application to fields with or without special instructions
  • Work around and/or handles hazardous materials
  • Ability to dump grain
  • Assist with feed truck driving
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations as required by DOT, OSHA and FEC company safety programs




Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
